Margin vs Markup: What's the Diff?

In retail and finance, Profit Margin refers to sales minus the cost of goods sold (COGS). For instance, if a product sells for $100 and costs $70 to produce, its margin is 30%. Markup is the amount added to the cost price to determine the selling price. In the same example, a markup of $30 on a $70 cost is roughly 42.8%.
